Sharks, Small Towns, and Horrifying Hairdos

Hi, everyone. I'm sorry it's been a month since I've posted. I will say it's generally been a good month where I had a few new experiences. One was attending my first SharkCon in Tampa with my friend Steph (although that was actually the weekend of July 12th and 13th). It was even better than I expected, and the speaker panel were both from the original JAWS movie and Jaws 2. Richard Dreyfuss was scheduled to appear, but he was very sick. It was a shame not to be able to see him, but I hope he's doing much better (health takes precedence over everything else). But the speakers were great, and I learned a great deal about the JAWS filmings. When I got home, of course watching all the JAWS movies was mandatory.

At the end of July, Steph and I also went to a little town called Micanopy, Florida. First of all, I had mistakenly thought it was pronounced like "My Canopy". But, it's pronounced as "mik-an-OH-pee. " Southern Living Magazine indicated it's "Florida's oldest inland town", and I believe it. It's very different from the more touristy areas of Florida. Don't get me wrong...I love the tourist attractions of Florida. But, it's always nice to see a different side of the state. We went to the antique shops and bought some things (I'm already hanging up a Halloween decoration I bought there). We also ate at a cute little place called Coffee n' Cream. The food was great, and it fits the cozy country vibe of the historic district. We also went to Paynes Prarie Reserve State Park, which was amazingly beautiful. We were up in the observation tower, and I felt like I was looking out at the wilds of Wyoming (although admittedly, I've never been to Wyoming). We were able to see six wild horses (I had never seen horses outside of a farm before). Florida continues to surprise me! I could do without the daily thunderstorms though.

I'm still designing away for Halloween, a holiday I really enjoy. I listed a really fun skeleton design for married couples (with a corresponding one for unmarried couples). The wife's shirt is "BEFORE I Surprised My Husband with a New Hairdo", and the husband's shirt is "AFTER I made Fun of My Wife's New Hairdo".

To sum it up, Mrs. Skeleton had a bone to pick with her husband. Sorry, I couldn't resist!
